PTA Programs

The Bonita Canyon PTA is comprised of a dedicated group of volunteers with a wide variety of interests and talents. We would love for you to become involved in some capacity. Please take time to familiarize yourself with our PTA committees and the events that we sponsor throughout the school year. If you would like to help in a certain area, please sign up to volunteer.

After School Classroom Enrichment (ACE) Program: ACE is a high-quality district-wide program that provides opportunities for students to participate in classes, both fun and academic, while staying in their school environment. These fee-based enrichment classes are coordinated by PTA volunteers at our school and are taught by pre-approved professionals. Classes offered have included art, chess, languages, sports, digital animation/filmmaking, and science. Please help coordinate volunteers for these weekly enrichment classes offered in the fall and spring because without volunteer support, this program may not be offered.

Art Masters: Thanks to money raised by the PTA, students will participate in five Art Masters sessions this year.  Students learn about famous artists and engage in projects exposing children to each artist’s technique and style.  Volunteers are needed to prepare art materials for each classroom. In addition, help is need for each classroom. Training and materials are provided. No art experience required. This is a parent run art lesson and a fun way to spend time in your child’s classroom. Assemblies: PTA funds are used to organize student assemblies throughout the year.  Students are exposed to a variety of interesting speakers and topics at each assembly.  Get involved at BC by helping to coordinate the planning of school assemblies.

BC Connections: Bridging Cultures, Building Community.  BC Buddies and Multicultural Club have merged to form BC Connections.  BC Connections’ goal is to create fun and engaging activities that invite ALL Bonita Canyon families to meet and foster new friendships, embrace our diversity, and keep our BC family strong.  BC Buddies

B.C. Partners: Supports and administers programs established with business partners in the Bonita Canyon Elementary community to bring additional fundraising revenue to the school.

Book Fair: The PTA organizes two book fairs per year. During the Fall and Spring, the students have an opportunity to purchase books for themselves or the classroom/library. The book fairs provide a great fundraising opportunity for BC.  Volunteer your time and work a shift at the Fall and/or Spring Book Fairs.

Community Outreach: Sign up to help BC students with various community service projects, i.e. adopt a family for holidays, food drives, etc.

Computer Lab Volunteer: Thanks to the money raised by the PTA, BC has received computer and technology upgrades.  Sign up to assist students in the computer lab as directed.

Emergency Preparedness: PTA funds are used to purchase emergency disaster/earthquake supplies for BC students.  Sign up to coordinate acquisition of supplies and equipment and offer assistance to office staff.

Fall Social: The PTA organizes an annual Fall event for all BC families to get together and socialize.  Festivities include a DJ, cake walk, coloring contest, activities for the children, and food trucks.  Volunteers are needed to help put this fun evening together.

Field Day: This end of the year event is a favorite with BC students.  Thanks to PTA funds, the students participate in numerous outdoor games and activities.  Sign up to assist with Field Day activities in June.

Guy Stuff: The PTA organizes an evening for 5th grade boys and their dads to discuss “guy stuff” and puberty.  5th grade dads are needed to assist with this 5th grade boys’ health education program.

Hospitality: Help coordinate refreshments at PTA evening meetings and miscellaneous PTA functions. A good way to meet BC parents!

IPSF Ambassador: The BC PTA supports Irvine Public School Foundations.  Be the school’s liaison with the IPSF to help communicate upcoming programs, promote the Community for Causes app.

Legislative Action: Assist Bonita Canyon PTA Legislative Action Representative with legislative advocacy projects designed to benefit Irvine Unified School District on the local, state and federal levels.

Library Volunteers: PTA funds are used for library support and library books and instructional materials.  Sign up to volunteer in the BC library in your classroom at back to school night.

L.I.F.E. Club: L.I.F.E. stands for “Little Individuals For the Environment.”  It is a student lead, student organized, student run club.

Mother/Daughter Health Education Night: The PTA organizes an evening for 5th grade girls and their moms to discuss puberty.  5th grade moms are needed to assist with this 5th grade girls’ health education night.

Movie Night: BC families gather on the soccer field one evening during the last week of school and watch a family movie on a large outdoor screen.  Popcorn and snow-cones are sold. BC students have the chance to vote for the featured movie.  Sign up to help with this annual end of the year outdoor movie night.

Office Volunteer: A variety of office needs are met with money raised by the PTA.  If you are interested in volunteering in the school office an hour or two a week, please call the school office at 936-5450.

Picture Day: Volunteers are needed to assist photographers with orders, combing hair, escorting classes, etc.

Pizza Parent: BC students LOVE pizza days!  Sign up to assist with serving pizza to students two times a month. Pizza days vary depending on each month’s lunch menu. Serving time is from 11:25am to 12:55pm.

Red Ribbon Week: With PTA funds, BC students are able to participate in a week dedicated to educating them about the benefits of healthy living and positive decision making.  BC students love competing against other classes to collect the most pennies in the Penny for Prevention Program.  A portion of the money collected is used by the City of Irvine in Drug Prevention Programs and a portion is returned to our school.  Volunteers are needed to assist during one week in October.

Reflections: The BC PTA supports Reflections, which is a national arts recognition and achievement program for students.  BC students are encouraged to express creativity through visual arts, literature, photography, dance, or film production.  Volunteers are needed in the fall to help exhibit the art and turn in BC’s top entries to the Irvine PTA Reflections Committee.

Room Parents: SIGN UP AT BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.

Sixth Grade Promotion Party: BC students love Wednesdays because it is Popsicle Day!  Parents are needed to assist the 6th grade on Wednesday afternoons, on a rotating basis. The proceeds go toward the 6th grade outing to Knott’s Soak City in June.

Spirit Wear: Show your BC spirit!  Many Fridays at BC are Spirit Wear Day!  Volunteers are needed to take orders for school spirit occasions.

Spring Fundraiser: The Spring Fundraiser is one of our two biggest fundraisers for the school year. Enjoy an adults-only night out and have fun with friends while raising money for our wonderful school.  Funds raised help support many important programs at BC. Sign up to help out for this great cause.

 Teacher & Staff Appreciation Luncheon: To let the teachers and staff at BC know that we think they are the best, the PTA organizes an annual luncheon during Teacher Appreciation Week.  Volunteers are needed to assist with the luncheon in May.

Team Kids: The four week Team Kids Challenge empowers BC students as they learn about identifying community needs and organizing a response to those needs.  Past focuses have included hunger, poverty, literacy, the environment, animal care, and military appreciation. Volunteers are needed to assist with Upper Graders to organize this 4-Week Challenge Program at BC. Challenge Program focuses on things such as Hunger; Poverty; Literacy & Environment.

Harvest Classic Soccer Tournament (5th and 6th Grade) – Every Fall, 5th and 6th grade students have the chance to tryout and compete in a soccer tournament. The tournament is a 1-day single elimination tournament with teams from all of the Irvine schools. Volunteers are needed to conduct tryouts, finalize a roster, arrange practices, and coach a team of BC students.

Hoops Classic Basketball Tournament (5th and 6th Grade) – 5th and 6th grade students have the chance to tryout and compete in a one-day basketball tournament in November.  The tournament includes teams from all of the Irvine schools. Volunteers are needed to conduct tryouts, finalize a roster, arrange practices, and coach a team of BC students.

 Web Management: Help keep Bonita Canyons Web site current and relevant.
